ATS-Friendly CV Guide: Our 7-Point Checklist
A strong CV is not the one with the most decoration or keywords. It is the one that helps a recruiter and an applicant tracking system understand your fit quickly, with evidence they can verify.
1. Start with the target role
Read the vacancy first. Mirror the employer's terminology only where it truthfully describes your experience, and prioritize the requirements that matter most.
2. Write evidence, not duties
Use concise action–context–result statements. Add honest numbers, scale, time saved or quality gains when they make the result clearer.
3. Keep the structure machine-readable
Prefer one column, standard section headings, chronological dates and selectable text. Avoid putting essential information inside images, charts, headers or footers.
4. Make relevance easy to scan
Put the strongest, most recent evidence first. Remove repetition and details that do not support the role; most candidates should aim for one or two focused pages.
5. Use skills in context
A keyword list alone is weak. Connect important tools and skills to projects, achievements or responsibilities that demonstrate how you used them.
6. Check language and local norms
Use the language requested in the vacancy and consistent spelling. Photo, age, marital status and other personal details vary by country, so follow local expectations and the employer's instructions.
7. Test the final PDF
Copy text from the exported PDF, check links and dates, review it on mobile and desktop, and use a professional filename such as Firstname-Lastname-CV.pdf.
